This is the first official post of the Tablues Blog, but the band has actually been around since February. Over the last three months, Dan, Deb, Kevin, Mark and Steve have racked up nearly a dozen gigs, including hosting the third Wednesday of the month at Love @ First Slice in Newark, California.
This weekend, August 3-4, marked a milestone--two gigs in two days! On Saturday, the band performed at the Paragon Stage at the Fremont Festival of the Arts, and today, Sunday, they reprised and expanded their set in front of Allegro Music. The music store was so close to the festival that you could hear whoever was playing at the Main Stage. When Tablues started playing, though, folks paid attention to us!
We hit all the right notes through our main Set 1, and the folks passing by stopped to take a look and hear a little Blues and R&B on their way to and from the festival.
It was a warm, but not hot, day, and we were lucky to be covered so we didn't burn. But the music was hot. As lead singer Deb says, "We get better with every gig." I agree.
Part of the fun is meeting other bands. We were fortunate to follow Sweet HayaH, fronted by the soulful Nehal Abuelata. The San Jose-based band played through their tunes smoothly and, from our view from the audience and from the elevated comfort of the musicians limo (!), seemed to be having a great time doing it. Nehal moves as she belts out her songs, which is all the more remarkable because she was wearing a brace on one knee from a bad fall after jumping too high and landing wrong at a previous gig. She and the band really put out.
Nice, then, that they stayed to listen to us. That's always the highest compliment, when the other band is interested in your music. We got to meet and talk with them later.
Now, we'll rehearse for our first gig at High Street Station, a nice little venue in the north end of Alameda.
